Two Hip-Hop Biopics Everyone Must See

CURRENTLY WATCHING. Can’t think of the 90s era without Bobitto and Stretch dropping all those underground bangers late night. they lit up the scene so fast. i mean wu tang was trying new material from little college radio stations wtf. I had emerson radio in boston (thursday was fire) and newberry comics and tower records (met preemo there) and biscuithead records (whatup dj bruno!) … that carried me for so many years. but I would take a greyhound from BOS to NYC with very little in my pocket just to see what fatbeats was carrying, who was spinning in-store, etc … even kanye was freestyling @ fatbeats store (which is now is all online sales, which i use a lot besides turntable lab and discogs) before he blew up. highly recommend both of these DVDs. dont get me wrong, i couldn’t survive now at all without apple music (where you buy music if you aren’t crate digging or using record pools), spotify (discovery), xmSirius (shade 45 is still dope as hell), mixcloud (dont sleep on this - lot of my favorite east coast radio DJs are dropping fire mixes here quite often), charlamagne (no-holds-barred interviews), IG and X (tracking other DJs/live during the day mixes), youtube (music videos from artists + videos of past DMC winners/sets … i cant stress the importance of this last element enough, so damn key to passing the tradition to future generations, big ups to christie Z @ dmc staff), soundcloud (unheard ofs), Genius (lyrics analysis), WhoSampled (crate lover mecca), etc - but let’s be real ya’ll, the Bobitto era truly was the golden one.
